By subverting some of the ways the images are disseminated such as newspapers and billboards, Zini drives us to re-consider these ephemeral objects. By painting on newspapers, by erasing figures and faces, by rescuing some empty billboards, she seems to be telling us « the party is over ».
STATEMENT
Zini's research has to do with the poetics of absence, the human disrepaired landscapes, the empty spaces. She erases figures and informations, removes the visible and identity, overlap, to question and subvert the way the images are disseminated and the ways of looking at the world. Her aim is to drive the viewer to re-consider some ephemeral objects, ongoing ruins of our world, generating reflection on the images produced by mass culture.
By painting on the newspapers, by erasing figures and faces, by rescuing some empty billboards, by her intensely chromatic uneven paintings, she seems to be telling us « the party is over ».
Her technique is often a kind of visual edition, absorbing elements of the reality like the grids and the fractured spaces, different layers but covering, censoring, erasing, abstracting, making opaque, in order to reinforce them. The color palette in a kind of "dirty colors" gives also this sensation of deterioration, collapsing, failure…
